Fields of Dawn is the musical project I created at the start of 2020 to raise funds for cancer charities. The idea being that I bring in people to help with various projects, as well as for me to write, record and release my own music. I am always open to offers and suggestions for musical collaborations so please feel free to contact me. 100% of all the profits are donated from every release.

In November 2023 my friend Laura Hopkinson died of bowel cancer aged just 42. She left behind her two young children, as well as three sisters and her parents. She was a wonderful person and was incredibly kind and supportive in all my endeavours. Sadly, we never got to meet in person, not that made our friendship any less. The Shining Star 3-track EP was released on April 5th 2024 in her memory, and the lead track was written about and is dedicated to Laura. 100% of the profits raised are donated to Macmillan and St Oswald’s Hospice. These two charities have been chosen by Laura’s family.

January 1st 2024 saw the release of Fields of Dawn’s second album called Destination Unknown. Written and recorded during May to July 2023, the album features 11 brand new songs. I feel that this was a real step up in terms of song writing and performance. I also made the decision to switch to recording on Logic Pro X on my Mac laptop. As with A New Dawn, the profits from Destination Unknown are donated to three cancer charities, The Bowel Movement, Bowel Cancer UK and Love Hope Strength. Available on Vinyl, CD and Download the album has raised £650 to date.

The Final Post is a very special release written about and dedicated to the memories of two beautiful young ladies recently lost to bowel cancer, Nicole Cooper and Monique Buckingham. Four very special and emotional songs raising awareness about bowel cancer and funds for four bowel cancer charities. Bowel Cancer UK, Bowel Cancer Australia, Impatient Advocacy and The Bowel Movement. The title track features 12 ladies from the bowel cancer community narrating Nicole’s final post penned on the day that she died.

At Christmas 2022 a special three track EP Reflections was released. It include a reworked version of No Man’s Land, the track about the football match on Christmas Day 1914 during World War 1. The release included the band’s first cover version, an acoustic version of News At Ten by The Vapors plus an acoustic version of On The Way Back. This digital release is listed on all the normal online music platforms.

2022 saw the release of the debut Fields of Dawn album, A New Dawn. The culmination of two and a half years work and an ambition finally realised. The album is available on Vinyl, CD and Download. It has raised over £1300 for Bowel Cancer UK, Love Hope Strength and The Bowel Movement.

In August 2021, to mark the 5th anniversary of losing Mum to bowel cancer Fields of Dawn released a two-track single Friends / Majority. All profits raised were donated to Bowel Cancer UK and Love Hope Strength. Friendships have been so very important to me since I began fundraising in 2012 and the song was for all the many new friends I have made.

In April 2021 for bowel cancer awareness month, the You / Forever And A Day release supported Bowel Cancer UK. The two songs were written with many of the amazing many bowel cancer community who I know very much in mind. They inspire me and have also been a wonderful support to me during Mum’s illness and since she died too. It is available on CD, Digital Download and 7″ Single. The release raised £165 for Bowel Cancer UK.

The beginning of 2021 saw the release of On The Way Back / Far Far Away in support of Love Hope Strength co-founded by Mike Peters of The Alarm who has been living with leukaemia for 25 years. I wanted to write and record a couple of tracks spontaneously, and once the songs were written I enlisted the help of Steve ‘Smiley’ Barnard from The Alarm to play drums and also to produce the two songs. It raised over £350 for Love Hope Strength.

The summer of 2020 saw the release of the 4-track Goodbye Farewell EP. This was something a little different as I got 4 different artists to record their unique interpretations of the same song. My heartfelt thanks to Carol Hodge, James Walsh, Pete Kirby, Steve ‘Smiley’ Barnard, Steve Webster, David Martin, Jason Bradley and Mike Dlugozima for their amazing support with this release. The EP was dedicated to Kelly “kickasskell” Smith who died of bowel cancer in June 2020 aged just 31. Too many young people are dying of this awful disease, which can be successfully treated in over 90% of cases if caught early. Available on CD and Digital Download the release raised over £350 for Bowel Cancer UK.

The spring of 2020 saw the release of Take It To The Top and for the first time a physical CD release to go alongside the digital download that appeared on all the major platforms. The track raised over £100 for Love Hope Strength and it was also the first time friends came on board to help make a promotional video.

The first Fields of Dawn release was the digital only release of Sunrise in January 2020. I wrote this song after my dad died after a short illness in 2009. This was very much a learning curve and the acoustic track appeared on all major digital platforms. Click here for details. I soon discovered that selling solely on those major platforms which take 40% of each sale was not the best way to raise funds, hence why subsequent releases appeared on this website. Sunrise raised around £25 for Love Hope Strength.

All support is greatly appreciated. The releases have raised over £2500 between them so far, and that is only possible with your continued remarkable support. Thank you everyone x
