Track 10: No Man’s Land. This is the big curve ball track on my Fields of Dawn album A New Dawn, which is a guitar fest of power pop, indie and alternative melodic anthems. Aside from No Man’s Land which is a piano led ballad. I have always loved history and at the same time have wanted to write a Christmas song. Hopefully this song ticks both boxes.

On Christmas Day 1914 there was the legendary football match played on No Man’s Land. Myth or legend… I certainly believe there is much truth in it. My Grandfather fought and was injured in the World War 1. A shrapnel wound and gas poisoning. Thankfully he lived to 80 and in fact during the Second World War he played a big part in keeping Maidenhead United going.

I wrote the song last Christmas when I was in the festive spirit. At the time I didn’t attempt to take it any further than strumming it on my acoustic guitar. I wasn’t sure if I would be able to record it for the album as I knew it needed to be different from my usual style. However, as I got towards the end of record for the album my confidence was high and I sent a demo of the track to Jason Bradley, who laid down a beautiful keyboard for me. It was really interesting arranging and producing the track in such a different style. Out of all the tracks on the album this is the one I am wondering what people will think of it the most…

A New Dawn is available to pre-order on Vinyl LP, CD and Digital Download along with the printed t-shirt. So far over £500 has been raised which will be shared by Bowel Cancer UK, Love Hope Strength and The Bowel Movement.
