The Majority – Ad, Pat, Rich, Lewis and Tim

37 years ago this month, The Majority made its live debut. This has been the only band that I have ever been in or made music with until I created Fields of Dawn a couple of years ago. The Majority should have gone further than it did, but being 19 and utter piss heads did not help our cause. By the beginning of 1987 things drifted to an uneventful end, although we were a bit like The Police in that we never really officially ended. We’ve remained friends, especially my myself, Lewis and Ad. We are talking being best men and ushers at weddings etc.

During the late 90s myself and Ad had great fun over a couple of years I guess recording some of the songs from back in the day as well some new songs. We did it all on a Tascam 4-track PortaStudio and the results were pretty good. The original band had done a few tracks on my very old 4-track reel to reel recorder.

On the Fields of Dawn album being released next month, I credit the band on the sleeve. The reason being that although it’s many years ago, I would never have got past writing music for my own pleasure if I hadn’t been in The Majority. Being in the band played its part in other friendships being made and it’s a time I look back on with great fondness.

Today me and Ad had a long catch up on the phone. He has recently started making new music in his new band AdJon Provocateur and this week they released their debut EP Firedoor which is really good. Check them out on Bandcamp! We talked about remixing some of the old Majority songs as I still have all the old recordings on cassette, so I think something will hopefully happen with The Majority at some point. I’d love for all of us to do something together, but we shall see. We’ve waited many years, so it is a case que sera…
