It’s a period of national mourning that most of us will never have experienced before and as seems to be the way these days, especially on social media, emotions are running high with the usual bombardment of people telling us how we should feel and what should happen etc. I always come back to kindness these days. I would like to think I would treat others how I like to be treated myself. We all share many different views and we should try and respect that we are all entitled to our own opinions, whether we agree with others or not.

I’ve never been someone who enjoys political debating. No-one is going to change my left wing views of having an inclusive and fair society and I don’t intend to try and change anyone else’s viewpoint. The State Funeral on Monday is causing a lot of debate as to who exactly should have the day off. Shops, businesses and schools I don’t see any problem about them closing. The hospitals cancelling operations, scans and appointments is a different matter. For me the answer lies in what would the Queen think? I am guessing if she knew that people’s health, both the physical and mental health side, were being put at risk by the funeral, Her Majesty would be horrified. Don’t get me wrong as there will be thousands of health workers wanting to watch the funeral and it’s alright for me, who won’t have to work on Monday, to preach about it, but unfortunately in this instance the welfare of the many surely has to take precedence when it comes to the nation’s health x
