June saw the completion of the Fields of Dawn album, A New Dawn. The poppy in the photo, which I took at work, was used on the front cover of the album along with the memorial statue of the two soldiers from the 1914 Christmas Day football match during the ceasefire. I was really proud of the artwork, which was my own idea and creation. If you own a copy of the album then this will all make perfect sense!

The final two songs for the album were completed in June. No Man’s Land was perhaps the most ambitious production I have done to date. I was very grateful to Jason Bradley for creating an amazing piano track, and then my challenge was to try and produce something that was both different and a little bit special. In my biased opinion I think I succeeded!

Whilst No Man’s Land was being being put together I found myself with a bit of spare recording time, so I came up with one final track for the album. Here We Go was written and recorded pretty quickly, but I think by this point I was so comfortable at the recording controls that the sound on this track is as good as anything I produced for the album. By the end of June the 100 Vinyl LPs had been ordered and I was gearing myself up for a September release.

The end of June saw the annual trip to Henley Regatta. This year I had some fun with an Alarm ‘poppy’ jacket. Each year I remember Mum and Dad, who must have gone to the regatta every year for about 50 years until we lost Dad in 2009. It is nice to carry on the family tradition…

June saw the release of Omega by The Alarm. It was a remixed version of the War album that was recorded and released during lockdown. War was a highly influential album for me as it inspired to write some new songs and therefore started the process that led to my own album being made.
