This photo taken of Prince today makes me so happy! There are some wonderful walks at work, but since he was diagnosed with seven slipped discs four and a half years ago Prince hasn’t been able to do the walks he used to enjoy so much. In his younger days with his mum Storm, we would arrive at work and do a nice long walk, and then do the same at lunchtime. It wasn’t just the dogs that benefitted, it was really good for me both physically and mentally. This particular walk, and our favourite one, is a steep incline just over the main road outside the work estate. Prince always looks at the gate when we walk past it, but I’ve been apprehensive about him doing too much. However, in recent times Prince seems to have a renewed lease of life and he has been walking further than at any time since his diagnosis. So today I gave him the option of doing a little bit of the path for the first time in over four years and he needed no second invitation. Prince wanted to go further than we did, but I will see how he goes and increase gradually if he seems to manage things ok.
I can’t begin to describe the joy that Prince adds to my life. He was given a life expectancy of between two months to two years at the time of diagnosis, and he here is over four years later absolutely smashing it! Looking after him with his slipped discs has become second nature to me these days, it’s very much our normal and that includes sleeping on the living room floor with him every night… Until tomorrow x Well more likely the day after tomorrow, because tomorrow night I am off to see The Alarm in London.
