Today has not gone to plan. I went into work this morning expecting to be on the road to Leeds pretty early, only for me to get a phone call from my brother, who sounded awful and has finally succumbed to COVID. Hoping that he makes a speedy recovery of course, but that was the end of my weekend plans. However, I am in a much more positive place these days, so I turned the day into a very positive one by launching the Fields of Dawn album in all its formats.
The first thing that I needed to do was place the order for the vinyl LPs with the factory in Taiwan. I have been looking at this place for around 6 months. My plan was to order 50, but things changed. Firstly they have launched an express service, which is perfect for customers like me who are ordering small quantities, and who don’t want any of the extras like coloured vinyls etc. As a result it looks like the vinyls could be here as early as September, which will change the release date bringing it forward from January. The other thing was the total cost for ordering 50 or 100 was so similar it seemed silly not to go for the 100 as if I can sell them I will make more per unit for the charities. Of course to do this I need your support more than ever. 15 copies of the vinyl have now been pre-ordered, so I need to shift another 85. I love a challenge! I’ve also ordered 5 test pressings. I’ll buy one for myself, but this means there are 4 available to anyone who fancies something different.
Setting up the CDs and Downloads on the website was quick and straight forward, as I have done this quite a few times now. I won’t need to place the order for the CDs just yet. I’ll wait to see how the vinyl order progresses and how many CD pre-orders come in as well. But it’s all ready to go and they only take a week or two. This leaves submitting the album to the digital platforms for downloading and streaming. This I will do once I have a release date set as I don’t want to have this released before the physical products.
So exciting times! I’ve been working on A New Dawn for a couple of years really. I have got better at the recording and arranging, so even though I am biased I think I have come up with a strong set of songs. The most recent recordings which haven’t seen the light of day yet are in my opinion my best yet.
One of the reasons why the album has taken so long is that I wanted to make sure that it contains plenty of new and previously unreleased material. It would have been a very easy option to have filled it almost entirely with old material. Of course, it needs to have songs like On The Way Back on it, but I have worked really hard on the new material and can’t wait to hear what everyone thinks of it.
Over the coming months I will go into more detail about the individual tracks and elements to the album. But for now, once again thanks to everyone who has pre-ordered a copy so far, and please keep the orders coming x The profits from every single sale with be shared between Bowel Cancer UK, Love Hope Strength and The Bowel Movement. Any item not sold will be at a loss to me (which is how I have always done my fundraising) and not the fundraising. It’s important that everyone knows that the profits from their purchase will go to the charities. Obviously if I can sell everything I will be quids in too 🤞
