Little did I realise back in early 2020 that going to the Bowel Cancer UK Patient Day in Manchester would be the last event I’d be going to for two and a half years. Looking back COVID pretty much halted my last book The Record in its tracks and my hopes of selling it at more events (not only Bowel Cancer UK ones) were dashed. I’ve been waiting for events to start up again, not because of any fundraising plans, but just to reconnect with the charity in person. A nicer and more caring group of people you couldn’t wish to meet. My commitment to fundraising for them and raising awareness about bowel cancer remains as strong as ever.
Today at The Great Fosters Hotel at Egham, the charity held a special event, to which I was lucky enough to be invited. CEO Gen Edwards outlined the challenges that the charity has faced through lockdown and where we are at with bowel cancer moving forward and the role that we can all play in trying to keep bowel cancer conversations going, making a difference and saving lives. Charlotte Dawson, the charity’s Nurse Advisor, also gave a really interesting and insightful talk about the important role of the support services and how they are an invaluable support for patients and family members.
I’d never heard of Great Fosters, yet alone been there, and it was the most beautiful location outside Egham in Surrey. Never one to pass up on a photo opportunity, I had my Fields of Dawn album with me, so I made sure I took one on such a lovely autumn afternoon with the stunning hotel in the background. Bowel Cancer UK, alongside Love Hope Strength and The Bowel Movement receive the profits raised by A New Dawn. Almost £850 has now been raised by the album, but with your continued support I hope we can push this even higher.
