Well if someone had ever told me that in 2022 I would spend my Friday night watching the last ever episode of Neighbours, I would never have believed them. Friday nights, in fact most nights, back in the 80s and 90s meant getting absolutely plastered! Back then though, I did watch Neighbours every lunchtime after the news on BBC1. When the family business was in Maidenhead we would close up for an hour every lunchtime and go back to Mum and Dad’s, so it was perfect timing as when it finished at 1.50 it gave us 10 minutes to get back to work!

Like many people back then I got completely addicted to it, and would set a video to record it on the days when I couldn’t watch it live. In 1996 I visited Australia for the first time and myself and Adam made the journey to both Ramsey Street and Summer Bay, the settings for Neighbours and Home and Away. I guess I stopped watching it in around 2000 partly down to our work moving to Medmenham and perhaps because few of the characters from the golden era were left.

So tonight I watched the hour long episode. Another rock and roll Friday night for me 😂 I must admit that many of the current characters meant nothing to me, and I wasn’t sure about the relentless music throughout. However, for someone like me it was lovely seeing the way they integrated so many of the old characters back. It was a nice trip down memory lane, but for an old Neighbours addict like me perhaps best left there x
