When I look back now to October 2021 when I sought help for my anxiety and depression, it’s amazing how far I have come. It wasn’t easy as no-one, not even those close to me, had any idea of my struggles. I presumed that I had been carrying on as normal on social media back then and hiding how I was feeling.
Where have the last eight years gone? On the one hand it seems like a lifetime ago that Mum died, but sometimes it seems like yesterday. I don’t think too much changes as far as how I feel each year. There is no getting away from the fact that the anniversary of losing someone close can be a particularly sad and indeed a tough time.
The forthcoming acoustic album from Fields of Dawn is scheduled for release in October. The 10-track album features 9 of my favourite Fields of Dawn tracks reimagined with new acoustic arrangements, plus a brand new song thrown in for good measure.
Over the last three years since my diagnosis for depression and anxiety, I have made huge strides in piecing together where it all comes from. 15 years ago today, June 15th 2009, we lost Dad. It was the day when everything changed. It’s a long time ago now. Four years ago on June 13th, 2020 Kelly Smith @Kickasskell died of bowel cancer. It was the late Deborah bowelbabe James who suggested that I contact Kelly while I was meeting people for my fundraising book, The Record.
Show 16 could only start this week with a song from The Alarm. The recent news about Mike Peters fighting cancer once again has been a shock to many and he is very much in our thoughts. I will be playing plenty more music by him as his treatment progresses. Without A Fight is totally apt for the moment and is taken from The Alarm’s Under Attack album.
Show 14 is kind of split down the middle with old classics and new tunes. The question is do you class tracks from 2006/07, of which there are a few in this week’s show, as old classics? I thought it was about time to have something by The Stone Roses on the show and a great song to start the show with.
