Today #bowelbear Hope met her new companion #bowelbear Dylan, and could we have the first #bowelbear romance? These two bears are happily settled with Helen Johnson, who is a bowel cancer survivor. She told me that the name Dylan means ray of hope in Irish.
It’s been a busy day for the two bears, as they seemed to enjoy watching The Blue Planet this afternoon, and then tonight Helen took them with her to visit a friend in hospital, and the bears bought a smile to her face.
The idea behind the stop bowel cancer bears is to raise awareness about bowel cancer. 16,000 people die of this awful disease each year, and yet if detected at the early stage 1 stage it can be successfully treated in over 90% of cases. At the moment only only 15% of cases are diagnosed at stage 1, so it is vital to improve early detection rates and survival rates. All ;proceeds raised from sales of the bears, which cost £10.99 (inc P&P) in the store are being donated to Bowel Cancer UK, the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity.
