A big thanks Wycombe Wanderers FC for allowing met to take #bowelbear Charlie pitch-side today to take some photographs to help raise awareness about bowel cancer. My mum died from this awful disease in 2016. This is second ground we have been to, so that leaves just another 90 grounds to go! And then of course there are the grounds in Scotland too… Adams Park is the closest ground to where I work at Medmenham between Marlow and Henley, so it was nice to get a warm welcome from the club.
The idea behind the Stop Bowel Cancer Bears is to raise awareness about bowel cancer, which is the second highest cancer killer in the UK claiming 16,000 deaths each year. However, if detected at the early stage 1 phase it can be successfully treated in over 90%of cases. This figure falls to just 7% when diagnosed at the late stage 4. At the moment only about 15% of cases are detected at the early stage 1, so improving early diagnosis rates is key to help reduce the amount of people dying each year.
Why not buy a bear and go on a whole series of new adventures to raise awareness about bowel cancer. All proceeds raised are donated to Bowel Cancer UK.
