February was a quiet month. No Valentine’s cards as always š¤£ and I celebrated my 57th birthday. The years seem to be racing by! I spent February writing and recording The Final Post EP. The idea had kind of been sown in my mind when I went to Llandudno at the end of January. I wrote two new songs Nicole and Monique in memory of Nicole Cooper and Monique Buckingham, two amazing young women who had recently been lost to bowel cancer. The extra track was called The Final Post and I approached 12 ladies from the bowel cancer community to narrate the final words posted by Nicole on the day she died. For me, this was one of the most special fundraising moments in the 11 years I have been doing it. The support and friendships made is second to none. To make this all the more poignant two of the twelve ladies are no longer with us š
For the release I got my great friend and fellow member in The Majority Ad to produce the tracks. This worked brilliant as Ad has brilliant creative vision when it comes to music arrangement and production. So although I was still very much the driving force, Ad’s contribution was nothing short of immense and made the release the beautiful piece of work that it was.
As with every month of 2023 buying music always played a part. Over the last few years I have become a massive fan of the supremely talented Carol Hodge. She was the genius who recorded the stunning version of Goodbye Farewell for me during lockdown. The vinyl issue of her most recent release Vertiginous Drops arrived. It’s another superb album. I think the track Silhouettes is perhaps my favourite track she has ever written so far. New album coming in 2024 can’t wait!
The first couple of months in the new year are always a bit of a struggle as you crawl to towards Spring, but at the same time the end of the cold winter is in sight. February days begin to get longer and the sun has a little more strength in the sky…
