March began with some live music with a hometown gig for The Vapors which also celebrated lead singer Dave Fenton’s 70th birthday. I met Dave before the band reformed for my Live & Times book, so I try to see them live when I can, but this was my first time seeing them since lockdown. Needless to day they didn’t disappoint and two quite superb support bands in Sharp Class and The Molotovs. If ever I needed a reminder of why I enjoy live music then this was it.
Adam was also busy this month doing the mixes for The Final Post EP and in fact I can remember driving back from The Vapors gig listening to a mix he had sent me. The EP was duly finished so I could get ready for the April 1st release date.
I was heading north to Leeds to see my brother, but had a delivery in Liverpool to do, so I took the opportunity to stop by both Anfield and Goodison Park to take some photos to raise awareness about bowel cancer. The only time I ever went to watch football at these two grounds was during the 1984/85 season and Arsenal were beaten on both occasions! Although I regularly deliver quite close to the stadiums this was my first return visit since those games almost 40 years ago…
With my brother living in Leeds we took the opportunity of heading to Harrogate for a wander round with Prince. It’s a beautiful town and I think it had been almost 40 years since I had been here. On that occasion I just drove through without stopping. We had a spot of lunch, although we couldn’t stomach the queues outside the famous Bettys Tea Rooms, so went to a quieter place round the corner instead.
With the days beginning to draw out and the sun getting stronger in the sky in early Spring it did feel like everything was coming to life again, and a little of that rubbed off on me. Sometimes I need to remind myself just how much I enjoy doing things instead of taking the easy option and staying at home…
