In May I began to think about making a new Fields of Dawn album. The first album had taken two and a half years to put together. With this one I was thinking 12-18 months with maybe a release towards the end of 2024. The first song I wrote in May was called The Road Of Fruition, and little did I realise that this would open the creative floodgates and I would go on to write and record the album in just 3 months. I decided that I would produce the album myself, so I had to learn how to use the recently purchased Logic Pro software as I went along. This first song set the bar pretty high and I think as the album developed the standard remained high. That will be for others to judge when they listen to the album…
May is the end of my financial year with the business. The good news was that we lived to fight another year. It’s not getting any easier, so it was a nice boost to end the year in profit. Sometimes it’s hard to believe that I have been running the firm on my own for 14 years since Dad died…
I went to another gig in May to see Mike Peters play in Tring. The Court Theatre was a new venue for me, and I thought it was a cracking little venue. Mike was doing an acoustic tour to promote Forwards, the new album by The Alarm. A terrific set with songs going right back to the start in 1981 to the very present. Since lockdown I have looked more towards gigs a little closer to home, and certainly outside London more. So Tring fitted the bill perfectly.
May has always been one of my favourite months of the year. Normally it signals the arrival of warm weather and it is also when the colours come out everywhere. I think seeing Bluebells in the Spring is one of the finest sites you can wish for.
