It was almost a year ago to the day that Prince’s spine injury was diagnosed. To hear the news that he has seven slipped discs was devastating, and coming just a few months after losing his mum Storm to lymphoma. Plenty of changes have had to be made to makes things comfortable for Prince and give him the best quality of life moving forward. He can no longer jump on and off chairs, go up stairs, jump on and off the bed, or climbing in and out of the car. As a result the house now has a ramp in the dining room and adapted steps in the living room. In fact the living room has now become mine and Prince’s bedroom as we sleep on mattress down there at night.
The photo was taken this morning at the dog walking field, which Prince loves, and shows just how far Prince has come in the last 12 months. A year ago his back legs were collapsing, and his inflamed spine had a pronounced hump clearly visible. He faced a very uncertain future. There is no cure for his condition, but he has done so so well. He doesn’t know where he is putting his back legs, and he has had to learn to manage this and walk without scraping his feet. He has regular physio sessions, daily exercises and massages, which have made a massive difference. Onward we go, and there is no room for complacency, but he is a very happy dog who has put on some much needed weight, so he is looking quite wonderful at the moment. He might take a bit of looking after these days, which does impact other things at times, but he is worth every second it x
