Sore fingers, playing the guitar singing simultaneously and trying sing in tune are all problems that have come to light during my first week of rehearsals. None of them are too concerning. My fingers have not played the guitar on such a regular basis for many many years, so they will take a bit of time to harden up. Playing the guitar and singing at the same time will just take plenty of practice. Years ago I could do it, but I am still very rusty. This kind of links in with singing in tune, as I am not able to relax into the vocal at the moment as I am having to concentrate so hard. I hope that this will improve. I am thinking hard and trying out different keys to play the songs in. Basically all these things are linked into rehearsing. There was no point announcing I will be playing a gig in “x” months time. I need to just knuckle down to rehearsing and if the time comes when I think I am good enough then I will start to look at possibly playing in public.

Cover versions… I don’t want to just play a set of cover versions by the artists that I like, but I also think slipping in one or two covers would be good fun and an interesting challenge. Once again I am taking my time thinking about potential songs to play live. Of course, anyone who knows me well will not be surprised that I will want to do a cover version of an Alarm song. I’m not ruling out the obvious 68 Guns, but at the moment I am playing around with their Majority song. It was this song that gave us the name for The Majority back in 1985. Work in progress, and for this rehearsal I recorded the live output onto Logic Pro. It was successful, especially then being able to sync the recorded sound with the original video on my phone. Then there is Eventide by The Faith Brothers and Down In The Tube Station by The Jam. These three will do me for now and hopefully I will be able to come up with passable versions.

The other tracks I am currently looking at include the current release by The Majority, Believe. Those of you who have heard the song will know we have the amazing Beki Hemingway guesting on vocals and what an amazing job she’s done. It makes me feel almost not worthy of singing it myself, but I’m giving it a go and will see how it sounds. The beauty of no time scale at this stage is I can try out anything I want. If it works great, but if it doesn’t I can just move on to the next idea. So, it’s interesting times at the moment, but moving in a good direction.
