The Final Post – Track 2 Monique

Track 2 on The Final Post EP is Monique. Dedicated to the memory of Monique Buckingham, known on Instagram as @thelifeofmique. Sadly Monique died of bowel cancer a few months ago, yet another young life lost to this awful disease. You are never too young. It’s so important that not only should we all know the symptoms and signs of bowel cancer, but also that younger patients and their symptoms are fully investigated and not discounted. Getting diagnosed early gives someone so much more chance of long term survival. Too many of the younger patients are being diagnosed at the later stage 4 because they are regarded as too young to get bowel cancer. This needs to change!

A year ago I had the honour of going to meet Monique and her family at hospital in Colchester after selling the charity Life of Mique teddy bears and she was was such a beautiful young lady inside and out. I’d followed Monique on Instagram for a few years and I’d approached her about selling the teddies after seeing her emotional post about no more treatment options being available on the NHS. Once Monique got involved and on board, sales of the bears went crazy. The support was incredible and we ended up raising around £1300 for Monique’s Go Fund Me page. Meeting Monique and her family in Colchester was very special and it had quite a profound effect on me. The lyrics to Monique kind of wrote themselves. She was the most warm, kind, caring, and compassionate person.
