11 YEARS

November 25th marked 11 years of my fundraising and raising awareness about bowel cancer. I would never have guessed when my Beating Bowel Cancer book was published 25/11/2012 that 11 years on I would still be here pushing the fundraising as hard as ever and receiving the continued phenomenal support from the most amazing supporters, who more importantly have become my friends x The impact this has had on my own life cannot be understated – it really has been life-changing.

Jen McEntee

Another young life lost to bowel cancer. Jen McEntee sadly died on October 27th aged just 35 years old. I knew Jen on social media following her @irish_bowel_cancer_journey account on Instagram. She was doing an amazing amount of raising awareness about bowel cancer documenting her own journey. Her bowel cancer story is all too familiar being a young person whose symptoms were ignored for way too long.

Destination Unknown Track by Track

I thought it would be interesting to run through the album track by track giving an insight into how the album came and what the songs are about. My initial plan was to perhaps write an record an album over the course of a year to 18 months similar to the last album. I certainly

Daily Journal 24/10/23 – Scarborough & Friendships

One of the strategies I was given during my mental health therapy, a couple of years ago now, was writing a daily journal. I found it immensely helpful, but I have been somewhat slack in recent times. I’ve decided to start it up again and see how I go with it. So many little things

Destination Unknown – £400 Raised

The debut fundraising album from my music project Fields of Dawn was released last September and so far has raised over £1300. A New Dawn is available on vinyl, CD and digital download. Two tracks were recorded with Steve Smiley Barnard of The Alarm at the helm and the other other 9 songs all self-produced. The songs were written by myself and have a punky, alternative, melodic perhaps power pop sound to them. The one track that is the exception to this is No Man’s Land, which is a piano ballad about that legendary football match during World War 1, which also featured on the Reflections EP that came out last Christmas.

The Next World

I’ve been writing a lot over recent months, but mostly lyrics for the new Fields of Dawn record. A lot of the lyrics I’ve written are of a personal nature and an honest account of where I am in life. The Next World is one of the tracks on the new album. Perhaps the most fitting song title given my recent health niggles. Yesterday, I saw my consultant in Urology. This was a scheduled post op assessment, but after Pathology threw up quite a big curve ball with the results of my recent procedure, the appointment had become quite a big deal, certainly from my point of view.
