Last week I was honoured to be invited to attend the 2019 Bowel Cancer UK parliamentary reception at Westminster. It was a chance to meet some of the people that I have become friends with on social media, as well as to renew acquaintances with a few familiar faces I’ve already met including Deborah James, Lauren Backler, Steve Clark, Deborah Alsina, and Daf Wyn Farr-Jones. I was also especially delighted to see my own MP there – Matt Rodda from my Reading East constituency lending his support. I didn’t manage to speak with everyone there, so I am hoping I can put that right in the not too distant future. So many inspiring individuals under one roof…

I took my #bowelbear with me and managed to take a few photos. The idea behind the bears is to help raise awareness about bowel cancer, and some funds for Bowel Cancer UK at the same time. They are available to buy in the online shop.

Lauren Backler, whose online petition has been at the core of the drive to get the bowel cancer screening age reduced from 60 to 50 with over 500,000 signatures to date, gave a wonderful speech, which I captured on video for her. Although the Government have committed to make the change no date for the implementation has been set.
