Chapter 2 in The Record is with Eddie Gray – a Leeds United legend from their famous side of the 1960s and 1970s. We met at Elland Road, so we were able to take some photos inside the stadium, which was quite special as myself and Eddie were literally the only people there.
Eddie spoke about his career at Leeds, which included the Don Revie era, as well as the controversial short spell under Brian Clough. Eddie also had two spells as manager at the club and has an association with Leeds United going back 50 years. These days Eddie is enjoying his work with LUTV, and has still has great enthusiasm for the game. He was such a nice man, made me feel very relaxed, and gave me as much time as I wanted before heading off to cover Leeds’ game away at Birmingham City that evening.
Everyone featured in the book has told me about the first record that they bought, and Eddie’s is a track from way back in 1962…
The Record was written in memory of my mum who died of bowel cancer in August 2016. All profits are donated to Bowel Cancer UK, and over £960 has been raised to date. Click here to see all the ways to order a copy of the book.
Bowel cancer claims 16,000 lives in the UK, and is the second biggest cancer killer. However if caught early at stage 1 it is very treatable, and the five year survival rate is over 90%. When detected at the late stage 4 the five year survival rate drops dramatically to 7%. This shows how crucial early diagnosis is to getting a better outcome. Knowing the symptoms is so important.
