In the summer of 2018 I went to SKY Television to meet Jacquie Beltrao for my bowel cancer fundraising book, The Record. At the time she was in remission from breast cancer and heading for five years being cancer clear. Jacquie’s cancer returned in 2020 as stage 4 breast cancer and anyone who follows her on social media will know how incredibly tough life has been for her during her treatment. She recently had clear scans which is amazing news. Since being diagnosed in 2013 Jacquie has helped raise awareness about breast cancer and worked with and supported breast cancer charities.

For the chapter in The Record we spoke about her cancer, and about her life going back to her successful career as a gymnast going to the Olympics to her career as a sports journalist with SKY. The story she told me of how she ended up in front of the camera is fascinating and like everyone in the book she told me about the first record that she bought, and hers is one I also own and an absolute classic album from 1979.

I am extremely grateful to Jacquie for her support with The Record. I began work on the book shortly after my mum died of bowel cancer in 2016, and it took me almost 3 years to complete the book which was published in 2019. It has raised over £1000 for Bowel Cancer UK. As well as Jacquie the book features many people from the the world of television, media, sport and music as well some truly inspirational people affected by cancer.

As well as the paperback and hardback editions in my online store, The Record is also available on Amazon as an ebook.
