On November 5th 2018 I met Kim Wilde at the picturesque Tewin Bury Farm Hotel just outside Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire for my bowel cancer fundraising book The Record.
It was an amazing experience. We chatted about Kim’s hugely successful music career as well as her life in gardening. It was interesting listening to Kim speak about learning her craft as both a recording artist and a live performer. Her first record is really interesting too. Kim was great fun, extremely supportive of what I am doing, and someone who still has a real zest for what she is doing.
This year Kim has released Greatest Hits album, and I am due to see her perform at the London Palladium in September 2022.
The Record is dedicated to the memory of my mum who died of bowel cancer in August 2016. 16,000 people die of bowel cancer each year making it the second highest cancer killer in the UK. However if detected early it can be successfully treated in over 90% of cases. At the moment only 15% of cases are diagnosed at the early stage 1, so much more needs to be to improve early detection rates. All proceeds raised from sales are being donated to Bowel Cancer UK, and over £1000 has been raised so far.
