Little did I know when I caught up with Natalie Germanos 48 hours before the Men’s Cricket World Cup Final that cricket was about to experience one of the greatest ever finishes to a game with England edging out New Zealand by the finest of margins to take the trophy. In fact Natalie was fortunate enough to have a ticket for the match so, she got to see all the drama unfold first hand.
Anyone who has enjoyed listening to the superb Test Match Special coverage of the Men’s Cricket World Cup over the last six weeks will have heard Natalie Germanos in the commentary box. I was really pleased to get the opportunity to catch up with her, and take some photos outside Lord’s Cricket Ground. She is soon to return to South Africa after she commentates on the Women’s Ashes Test match in Taunton this week.
I’d really enjoyed listening to Natalie commentating on the Women’s World Cup a couple of years ago, and I was delighted when she agreed to meet me for my new fundraising book The Record. Such was her busy schedule it went right to the wire, but we managed to make it happen. Natalie talked about how she came to be a sports commentator in South Africa, which was absolutely fascinating, and she certainly has worked very hard to get where she is.
My new charity book, The Record, is available to buy from my rivers2cross.com website and all proceeds raised from sales are donated to Bowel Cancer UK. The book is dedicated to the memory of my mother who died of bowel cancer in 2016. Cricket features in the book quite a bit. As well as Natalie I managed to meet Daniel Norcross, Mike Selvey and George Dobell.
