The Record has gone past £900, and has now raised £925 for Bowel Cancer UK. The sudden surge in sales was down to my wonderful friends and fellow fans of The Alarm, who continue to support all my fundraising endeavours. I spent the weekend at The Gathering, the annual two day event when fans from all over the world gather together to see band play in Llandudno, North Wales. One of the big positives to come out of losing someone to this awful disease are the many new friendships I have made, many of whom I now regularly see at concerts by The Alarm.
As a result of the weekend sales £1000 is almost within touching distance now. If I manage to sell the books I currently have had printed then I will go pass this figure. So please click here to order a copy of the book. All profits raised are donated to the charity.
If I can get to £1000 the book will have achieved everything and more that I hoped it would. I will then ramp down on the promotion and concentrate on trying to sell it at events if I can get to some.
My mum was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2012 and died in 2016. All my fundraising and raising awareness of bowel cancer is done in her memory. The Record took me over two and half years to complete and features many famous people I met from the worlds of sport, television, media and music. It also includes some incredibly inspirational people from the bowel cancer community.
Bowel cancer claims 16,000 lives in the UK, and is the second biggest cancer killer. However if caught early at stage 1 it is very treatable, and the five year survival rate is over 90%. When detected at the late stage 4 the five year survival rate drops dramatically to 7%. This shows how crucial early diagnosis is to getting a better outcome. Knowing the symptoms is so important.
