#bowelbear Charlie with Greg Gilbert’s Painting

Here is a first peek at what is going to provide the basis for my new bowel cancer fundraising book cover design. Last week I met Greg Gilbert and Stacey Heale as part of the book in Southampton. I picked up this fantastic piece of art from Greg, which I am going to use as the main theme of the book cover . Today I had a go at photographing the painting and it went well, so I also did a photo of my #bowelbear Charlie with the painting too. Once I have decided upon the text layout, I’ll reveal the complete book cover design, but at least this you an insight as to where I am going with it all. The teddies are available in the online shop with all proceeds raised donated to Bowel Cancer UK.

Greg is in the band, Delays, as well as being a superb artist and writer. As well as enjoying the music, I have become a huge fan of his art over the last year or so since we have been in contact, and I had to be quick to snap up this piece when he previewed it recently. Greg is living with stage 4 bowel cancer. Originally the book chapter was just going to be on Stacey and her life as a carer, but she managed to get Greg to agree to be in it too, for which I am very grateful. It was a great meeting, and I thoroughly enjoyed two lovely people with a story to tell, and many interesting things to say about living with bowel cancer. The forthcoming book, The Record, will be published in 2019.
