I have just sent £500 to Bowel Cancer UK from the proceeds raised by sales of The Record so far. I would like to thank everyone who has so kindly bought the book, and for all the kind comments about it, which mean such a lot to me.

£500 is a great first milestone. I now set my sights on £1000, which I believe is achievable with a lot of hard work. I always knew the biggest challenge would be self-promoting and marketing the book and trying to break it out into the big world world. As ever any help with that would be greatly appreciated.

Mum and Dad

The Record has been written in memory of my mother who died of bowel cancer in 2016. 42,000 people are diagnosed with this awful disease in the UK every year, and there 16,000 deaths making it in the UK’s second highest cancer killer. The book is also helping to raise awareness about bowel cancer, as if detected early it can be successfully treated in over 90% of cases. At the moment only 15% of cases are diagnosed at the early stage 1. Survival rates fall dramatically to just 7% surviving for five years or more when diagnosed at stage 4, so improving early diagnosis rates is crucial to raising survival rates.

Nicole Cooper with The Record

I always love seeing photos of people with the book. I recently met with Nicole Cooper while she was in London on a family holiday from Australia. I managed to get Nicole, a stage 4 bowel cancer patient, into the book by way of a video chat, so it was lovely to be able to meet her in person.

So please continue to support The Record. Buy a copy, spread the word about the book, send me photos of yourself with the book, and let’s see if we can reach that £1000 figure x.
