The search is on for somebody to write the foreword for The Record, my forthcoming fundraising book in support of Bowel Cancer UK. Ideally I would like it to be someone who features in one of the chapters, though not absolutely necessary. Matthew Wright wrote a brilliant foreword for the last book, Lives & Times, so a high standard has been set. I think it’s time to send out a few feelers, but if anyone reading has any suggestions, I’d be happy to consider them.
The Record is being written in memory of my mum who died of bowel cancer in 2016, and all proceeds raised from sales will be donated to Bowel Cancer UK. All my fundraising projects since mum was diagnosed in 2012 have raised around £9000, so I am hoping the new book will help push this figure past £10,000. Bowel cancer is the 2nd highest cancer killer in the UK with 16,000 people dying each year. However, if detected early at stage 1 it can be successfully treated in over 90% of cases. This figure falls to 7% if diagnosis is at stage 4, so early detection and is crucial to improving survival rates.
