I have been very fortunate to have met some amazing people whilst putting together my bowel cancer fundraising books in recent years, and they don’t come much better than music legend Billy Ocean. I was delighted when he agreed to be part of The Record, and I met him after his show at the Oxford New Theatre on his 2017 UK tour when he gave me a few minutes to have a chat and take a photograph. He was a really nice man, very interested in what I was doing, and he revealed a very interesting first song, which you can read all about in the chapter in The Record.

The concert was brilliant and Billy performed all his hits. To see him sing the classic ‘Red Light Spells Danger’ was worth the ticket price alone. I must have been the only person there wearing an Alarm t-shirt and a Frank Turner hoodie! A superb evening and I am very grateful to Billy for his support.

April is bowel cancer awareness month. My Mum died of bowel cancer in 2016 – four and half years, and five major operations after being diagnosed in 2016. All profits raised from sales of the The Record are donated to Bowel Cancer UK, and the book has raised over £900 so far. As well as raising funds the book will hopefully help to raise awareness about this awful disease, which remains the second highest cancer killer in the UK.

The Record is available as a paperback, hardback and eBook. It features my meetings with many famous people from the worlds of music, sport, television, and comedy as well as many amazing people from the bowel cancer community. Everyone who took part has told about the first record that they bought.
