The Next World

I’ve been writing a lot over recent months, but mostly lyrics for the new Fields of Dawn record. A lot of the lyrics I’ve written are of a personal nature and an honest account of where I am in life. The Next World is one of the tracks on the new album. Perhaps the most fitting song title given my recent health niggles. Yesterday, I saw my consultant in Urology. This was a scheduled post op assessment, but after Pathology threw up quite a big curve ball with the results of my recent procedure, the appointment had become quite a big deal, certainly from my point of view.

Rehearsals – Episode 2

Cover versions… I don’t want to just play a set of cover versions by the artists that I like, but I also think slipping in one or two covers would be good fun and an interesting challenge. Once again I am taking my time thinking about potential songs to play live.

Rehearsals – Episode 1

Performing in public has always terrified me and that’s just playing the guitar, so when you add singing into the mix, this really is a massive challenge for me.

The Final Post – Bowel Cancer Australia

June is bowel cancer awareness month in Australia and New Zealand. The Final Post is a very special release from my musical project Fields of Dawn and is closely connected to Australia by the Nicole song. Four very special and emotional songs raising awareness about bowel cancer and funds for three bowel cancer charities, Bowel Cancer Australia, Bowel Cancer UK and The Bowel Movement. The songs are written about and dedicated to the memory of two beautiful young ladies recently lost to bowel cancer, Nicole Cooper and Monique Buckingham.

Mum in Cornwall

Through Mum I rediscovered Cornwall. We went there a couple of times on family holidays when we were young, but when I returned there in 2012 it was for the first time in over 35 years. These two trips split by 4 years both involved picking Mum up from the quite beautiful St Anthony-in-Meneage

Fields of Dawn – Past, Present & Future

Tomorrow I am hoping to record a new podcast. Having done three podcasts so far on the recent Fields of Dawn Final Post release, this next one will kind of wrap things up as far as Fields of Dawn goes for the time being. I’ll go back to how it all started, run through some of the highlights from the last three years, and also look ahead to the future. I may even share a snippet of what I am currently working on.

Fields of Dawn – The First Three Years

Fields of Dawn has come a long way as a musical entity since its inception at the start of 2020. The first three years have seen over £2500 raised for various cancer charities by the musical t-shirts and a few t-shirts along the way. I’ve pushed it pretty hard. No sooner has one release finished its natural course then a new idea and release comes to the fore. I’m ever so grateful for the continued support the releases have enjoyed.

A New Dawn – The Debut Album from Fields of Dawn

The debut fundraising album from my music project Fields of Dawn was released last September and so far has raised over £1300. A New Dawn is available on vinyl, CD and digital download. Two tracks were recorded with Steve Smiley Barnard of The Alarm at the helm and the other other 9 songs all self-produced. The songs were written by myself and have a punky, alternative, melodic perhaps power pop sound to them. The one track that is the exception to this is No Man’s Land, which is a piano ballad about that legendary football match during World War 1, which also featured on the Reflections EP that came out last Christmas.
