Fields of Dawn – The First Three Years

Fields of Dawn has come a long way as a musical entity since its inception at the start of 2020. The first three years have seen over £2500 raised for various cancer charities by the musical t-shirts and a few t-shirts along the way. I’ve pushed it pretty hard. No sooner has one release finished its natural course then a new idea and release comes to the fore. I’m ever so grateful for the continued support the releases have enjoyed.

The Final Post

The Final Post is a very special release from my musical project Fields of Dawn. Four very special and emotional songs raising awareness about bowel cancer and funds for three bowel cancer charities. Bowel Cancer UK, Bowel Cancer Australia and The Bowel Movement. The songs are written about and dedicated to the memories of two beautiful young ladies recently lost to bowel cancer, Nicole Cooper and Monique Buckingham. During bowel cancer awareness month in April over £300 has been raised for the three charities.

A New Dawn – The Debut Album from Fields of Dawn

The debut fundraising album from my music project Fields of Dawn was released last September and so far has raised over £1300. A New Dawn is available on vinyl, CD and digital download. Two tracks were recorded with Steve Smiley Barnard of The Alarm at the helm and the other other 9 songs all self-produced. The songs were written by myself and have a punky, alternative, melodic perhaps power pop sound to them. The one track that is the exception to this is No Man’s Land, which is a piano ballad about that legendary football match during World War 1, which also featured on the Reflections EP that came out last Christmas.

The Final Post – Community

I have been fundraising and raising awareness about bowel cancer since 2012, the year Mum was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer and had her first bowel operation. It all began with the Beating Bowel Cancer book. I had come across the Beating Bowel Cancer charity and and rather naively thought that after a successful operation Mum had indeed beaten the cancer. So I thought what a perfect title for a book. One thing that has never changed since that book was published has been the numerous friendships that I have made and continue to make. I began fundraising as a bit of a loner and the bowel cancer community and the support and friendship, if I am being totally honest, took me by surprise.

The Majority – Shadows and Souls Official Video

The response so far to the first new Majority song in 24 years, Shadows and Souls, has been amazing. The first run of CDs sold out way ahead of the release date, so a second run is now being done. Until today only a couple of short snippets of the song had been released, so we are delighted to now being able to bring you the official video. Hopefully you will like both the song and the video. We would love to hear what you think?

The Majority – Shadows and Souls (Teaser)

Work on Shadows and Souls is nearing completion, so today a brief teaser from an early mix. Both me and Ad are really happy with this track and how it is sounding. We’ve decided that we want to get this track out there as soon as we can, so that we can begin to build the band’s profile after being away for so long. The plan is to put this song on digital platforms and see what kind of reaction we get. It is possible that it might get a physical release, but that would largely depend on demand.

2023 – The Majority Are Back

Now, in 2023, myself and Ad are bringing The Majority back after over 20 years. We both have our other musical projects going, but modern technology allows us to work remotely, and we can revisit some of the old songs, but write some new songs too hopefully.

Carol Hodge Band Abingdon

My first trip to the Northcoat Music Centre in Abingdon last night to see the Carol Hodge Band. It’s a terrific little venue and well within striking distance of my home in Reading. Carol is a wonderful singer songwriter and in recent times, after 25 years of performing, has taken the plunge into making this her full-time career. She will soon be releasing her 5th album, and has put together the Carol Hodge Band to go out on the road.
