Exactly one year ago I met television presenter Siân Lloyd for The Record, my fundraising book which is raising funds for Bowel Cancer UK. We met at the stunning Dartmouth House in Mayfair, and chatted for a couple of hours, and without doubt it was one of my favourite experiences and chapters in the book.

I had the idea of contacting Siân when I saw a photograph of her with the Beating Bowel Cancer logo on her jeans, which she told me was taken when she won Rear Of The Year in 2007. She was absolutely lovely, and we chatted about my mum and bowel cancer, her first record, her career, and so much more. I am incredibly grateful for her help and support.

Work on The Record began shortly after my mum died of bowel cancer in August 2016, and it is dedicated to her memory. I met and photographed a variety of famous people from the worlds of television, sport, music as well as some amazing and inspirational people from the cancer community. Each person in the book has told me about the first record that they bought.

Bowel cancer is the second highest cancer killer in the UK, and each year 16,000 people die of it. However if detected early at stage 1 it can be successfully treated in over 93% of cases. This dramatically falls to 7% when diagnosed at stage 4. At the moment only 15% of patients are detected at stage 1. So raising awareness is vital to help improve early detection rates. Bowel Cancer UK is doing some amazing work driving this process forward, and I am proud to be raising funds for them, and making my own small contribution to raising awareness.

Please check out my store rivers2cross.com/shop where all my fundraising items including The Record are available. Since 2012, when mum was diagnosed with bowel cancer, the total fundraising for Beating Bowel Cancer, and now Bowel Cancer UK, is around £10,000 thanks to the incredible and generous support of everyone.

The Record has raised over £600 since it was published in June. The book is available in paperback, hardback and as an eBook. Click here here to see all the ways that you can buy the book.
