I took my cuddly friends to The All England Lawn Tennis Club at Wimbledon. I contacted my friend Matthew Crawcour, Head of Championships Operations, who I also play cricket with at Knowl Hill CC, and I asked for a big favour as I was working in the area, and he totally came through for me.
When I began writing The Record after Mum’s death in 2016 the first thing I decided was to approach the bowel cancer community to support the book. I didn’t want the book to be purely about bowel cancer, but I was not going to shy away from the subject matter either. After all I had just lost my mum to this awful disease, I was dedicating the book to her memory, and I set out with purpose of producing a book that would raise funds for Bowel Cancer UK.
April is bowel cancer awareness month, and my musical project Fields of Dawn has released a special 2-track single to help raise awareness about bowel cancer, and also funds for Bowel Cancer UK. This video of “You” one of the tracks features bowel cancer patients, families and friends who are helping me to raise awareness about this awful disease.
Take your teddy with you to all your favourite places, and then take a photo to raise awareness. I have received photos from all over over the world from as away as Australia and New Zealand. In a time when travel is difficult there are still so many interesting laces on our doorstep to take a photo with the bear.

The last 12 months during a global pandemic have not just seen charities struggling for vital funds, but also the massive impact on patients having treatment changed, delayed or cancelled. There is no getting away from the fact that lives have been lost as a result. April is bowel cancer awareness month, and I intend to do what I can to help raise awareness about bowel cancer. For many people this month will also be a time when they receive a bowel cancer diagnosis. So here is a little of what raising awareness means to me and an introduction to bowel cancer.

What has my Mum got to do with the new Fields of Dawn music release. In a nutshell an awful lot as she remains the inspiration behind all my fundraising. The fact is that if Mum hadn’t got bowel cancer and sadly died from it, my path would probably never have crossed with so many of you who have supported my fundraising going back over 8 years now. So for anyone who has connected with me in more recent times and wonders why I am continuously asking for fundraising support this is my mum’s cancer story.
Of all the chapters in The Record that I wish Mum had got to see was the chapter with Olympic equestrian gold medal winner Carl Hester at his stables in Gloucestershire. The stables are home to Uthopia, who Carl rode to win gold at London 2012, and also to the legendary Valegro ridden at London by Charlotte Dujardin. I know Mum would have absolutely loved to have come along on this one with her life-long love of horses.
