April is bowel cancer awareness month, and my musical project Fields of Dawn has released a special 2-track single to help raise awareness about bowel cancer, and also funds for Bowel Cancer UK. This video of “You” one of the tracks features bowel cancer patients, families and friends who are helping me to raise awareness about this awful disease.
The new double A-sided single release of On The Way Back / Far Far Away by Fields of Dawn is out now. This is a very special release with all profits raised from every sale donated to the Love Hope Strength Foundation co-founded by Mike and Jules Peters from The Alarm.
What has my Mum got to do with the new Fields of Dawn music release. In a nutshell an awful lot as she remains the inspiration behind all my fundraising. The fact is that if Mum hadn’t got bowel cancer and sadly died from it, my path would probably never have crossed with so many of you who have supported my fundraising going back over 8 years now. So for anyone who has connected with me in more recent times and wonders why I am continuously asking for fundraising support this is my mum’s cancer story.

The beauty of writing music is taking time. Sometimes I can’t write a song for love nor money, and then sometimes I have a creative spurt. In December 2018 I travelled to Brighton to meet Steve Norman and Sabrina Winter for my recently published charity book The Record that I have written in memory of my mum who died of bowel cancer in 2016.
This December I have set myself a challenge of selling 25 additional copies of the Goodbye Farewell 4-track CD. It costs £5 and is available from rivers2cross.com. All profits raised from every sale are donated to Bowel cancer UK in memory of Kelly Smith who died of bowel cancer in June. The release has raised almost £350 so far and charities are in desperate need of our continued support with their income dramatically reduced this year as a result of the pandemic.

The final track on the Goodbye Farewell 4-track EP features Jason Bradley and Mike Dlugozima with a quite beautiful version of Goodbye Farewell. This was a transatlantic collaboration done through the wonders of social media. Jason from Sheffield sent me the keyboard track, which I then forwarded to Mike in New York State. The biggest challenge for me was syncing Mike’s vocal to the keyboards on my 8-track Boss digital recorder. It turned out quite brilliantly!
